Kate Walsh tops iTunes album chart
Yesterday I picked up an email with fantastic news from singer Kate Walsh, who recorded her song ‘You Are Home’ for our tropical forest project: ecuador CD at the end of February.
The Times report that Kate’s album ‘Tim’s House’ topped the iTunes album chart last week, displacing Take That and The Kaiser Chiefs!
This is, of course, great news for us, and for the hummingbirds and other extraordinary life forms whose forest habitats will be brought under permanent protection through sales of tropical forest project: ecuador.
I asked Peter Larsen our producer to play back Kate’s song as soon as I got to his studio in South London the day she recorded for us. Just before he hit ‘play’ I asked him how it had gone: “World class” was his verdict, “she just sat on the chair and started playing, without headphones, and I thought ‘Shit, this is gonna be good’. I just started recording while she played. The first take was perfect, she’s the real deal”.
As Kate’s vocal breathed from the speakers I could only add “Perfect – don’t change a thing”. I was kicking myself at the time for missing my train and getting there too late to witness the recording, but hey, I wonder if it would have been as perfect had I been there…
We’ll keep you posted as the songs get down – next up we’re recording Alan Lacroix, whose song ‘August’ made me go all oversensitive and weepy the first time I heard it.
Well done Kate, and hats off to our Pete who emailed me last July with a link to Kate’s Myspace: “Hi There, I’ve found 3 links on myspace. I think Kate Walsh is excellent, she has the potential of going all the way. Check her out.”
